Eighty Days

Scott and I have been married for something like 80 days.  Most of these days have been normal with the exception of last Wednesday, when we went to our first childbirth class.  It was at night, in the basement of the emergency wing of the hospital, which I thought was creepy enough until the teacher came in waving some kind of Barbie doll and a model of a human pelvis.  The first thing she said was “does anyone know what this is?”  There were about thirty of us in the room and we all just stared at her with our mouths open because, I mean, what were we going to say?  Do we know what a pelvis is?  Why yes.  Yes we do.  We are familiar with our pelvises.  THEY ARE PRECISELY WHAT GOT US INTO THIS MESS.

But let’s back up.  There was a wedding, remember?  I finally went through the pictures and picked some to share with you.  They were all taken by our awesome photographer, Jeff Gleason.

A happy weekend to you all!

    Amazing!! You two look radiant!

    October 10, 2014
    • Why thank you so much, Amy! If we look radiant, it might be because we were. . . radiating heat. It was HOT during the ceremony, but it didn’t rain, and dinner was inside the barn. xo

Gorgeous wedding photos! I’m usually a lurker (sorry?). Congrats!!

    • Thank you so much, Janie! We had so much fun that day.

Stunning. What a beautiful bride. Thank you so much for sharing.

    October 10, 2014
    • Oh my goodness, sharing is so much fun. I liked going through the pictures–it makes me remember the day all over again. I have to be sure not to look at them too many times, though, lest I accidentally erase my own memories of the day and replace them with the picture perfect ones!

gah, how great are these pictures?!? looks like a beautiful day/celebration, and you are gorgeous!

    • Dude, our photographer was awwwwesome. And really fun to be around. Have you ever gone to Castle Hill Cider? I don’t know if it was around when we were there. It’s out in Keswick, and I liked it because it actually had a barn to have dinner in, whereas Veritas and King Family didn’t (not that those aren’t lovely places to get married).

  5. What a beautiful wedding! I especially love the photos of Scott (adorable), you (SO ELEGANT), and Thunder (look at those little legs go!). Congratulations all over again to you!

    October 10, 2014
    • Jennifer–
Thunder took off down the aisle as planned and then veered off to the right when she got to a row of guests that included adorable red-headed twin boys. I think she wanted to sit with them and play with them always. Their mother got Thunder back on track and she waddled the rest of the way down the aisle up to Scott, who gave her a treat and detached our vows from her collar. Of course, she plopped her butt down and didn’t want to leave after that, so a friend had to come up and physically remove her from between the two of us so the ceremony could proceed. She stuck around for the cocktail party and then a friend took her home for us. We had bought her THE CUTEST COLLAR with a matching leash. It was white velvet with bling on it but we left it at home by accident. That’s why she’s wearing her old, ratty purple harness in the photos. Now she wears the white wedding collar for special occasions–to greet out of town guests when they arrive, for example. It makes me smile every time we put it on her.

I’m so glad the photographer got that look on Scott’s face when he saw you walking. So excited. So exciting. Love you guys.

    October 10, 2014
    • Awwww. When I saw him do that I flipped out inside. It was so, so sweet. I love that he did that.

  7. This looks like the wedding of my dreams! Beautiful!

    • Thank you so much, my friend!

  8. What a gorgeous wedding you had, and a perfect day. Bling or no bling for Thunder, I don’t think anyone could ask for anything more!

    October 11, 2014
    • Yeah! Can you believe those few perfect little clouds?! We were lucky on those.

Thunder wore her bling the other day. We had houseguests and they brought their pug for the weekend, so we dressed Thunder up in her wedding collar so that she looked like a proper hostess.

Thank you for sharing – they are delightful! What a beautiful setting, and you two look like you were having a ball! Which is how it should be 🙂

    October 11, 2014
    • Thank you, Jenny! We tried to involve our friends as much as we could, to make it personal. Our friends played the guitar and violin as we walked down. Our other friend officiated, and another gave a funny talk (he’s hilarious), and my friends and I and my mom’s friends baked the desserts and Scott’s mom made stuff for the welcome bags and my mom’s other friend helped us make our own bouquets. It was SO FUN to do it that way!

  12. Your pictures got me weeping. So lovely, and happy, and Thunder working it like the boss she is, and tears, tears, tears. And I only know you virtually! Geez.

    October 11, 2014
    • Aw, thank you Sandy Sue! I was so worried that I was going to cry during the whole ceremony but I DIDN’T!!! I was so happy about that. My bridesmaids and I went to the venue early in the morning and had our hair and make-up done there and got dressed there, so that we weren’t driving around town in a hurry all day. The wedding started at 4, and two of my favorite parts of the whole day were when Scott arrived and I saw him walk across the barn (I was up above) with his suit in a garment bag over his shoulder, and later, when one of my bridesmaids got a text from her husband, who was in charge of loading our guests onto the buses to come out to the venue from the hotel. She said “Zac says the buses have left the hotel and are on their way!” And then ten minutes later she said “the buses are about 5 minutes away!” (ps I just started crying writing this) When she said that, I was just so overwhelmingly excited and moved about the fact that people came to be there with us. They came from so far away! From California and New York and Arizona, and one friend even flew FROM CANADA, where she’d been at a wedding THE NIGHT BEFORE, and her girlfriend flew FROM BRAZIL to meet her at my wedding. I mean, that is a huge effort to go to. I was just so floored by all of the support. And it didn’t hurt that we got to tell people the night before the wedding and at the wedding itself that we were pregnant. It made it such a wild and crazy celebration of our lives together. Aaaaanyhoo, xoxo.

  13. Oh my goodness! Your wedding looks like it was absolutely magical! MAGICAL!!

    October 11, 2014
    • The only thing that would have made it more magical is if you had hand distressed all the chairs for us and if 2.0 could have–I dunno–done a musical number? Is he very musical? Because our band was good but they could have used another voice or two.

      October 19, 2014
  14. Your officiant is clearly rocking the whole karaoke thing.

    October 11, 2014
    • Bwahahaha!! Yeah, that’s our friend Ryan. He’s HILARIOUS. We asked him to give a talk, and he included several funny haikus about our relationship and made people crack up repeatedly. (He’s so funny that he wrote a book of puns! https://www.createspace.com/3998712)

The pictures are fabulous!! You were a beautiful bride and Scott was precious too. So glad you shared them.
On the subject of child birth class…..I feel remiss in not warning you to skip those! The nurses and doctor will get the baby here! I cried in that awful class…it was scary!

    October 11, 2014
    • Ok, we had class number 2 (of 4) last Wednesday and let me tell you: the teacher started the class with ANOTHER VIDEO about a sperm meeting an egg. We were like. . . UM, WE GOT THAT PART, THANKS.

awwww! You look gorgeous! Love that shot of you by yourself! And love Scott’s suit and the pink and blue theme for the men! It all looks wonderful!

    October 11, 2014
    • Thanks!! Yeah, I’m glad we did most of the picture taking before the ceremony (except for the ones of me and Scott and some family ones–I didn’t want him to see me until I walked down the aisle). That way we got to actually spend some time at the cocktail party and eat peaches wrapped in ham, and chicken and waffle skewers!

    October 11, 2014
    • Sue Ellen, it was so much fun. And I was so touched–my brother got married in Charlottesville (same place we did) less than a year before we did, and STILL all our family and family friends came back for our wedding. It was really amazing of them.

  36. i LOVE YOU TWO: what a beautiful wedding, seriously. And you, Katherine, look stunning. And that photo of Scott getting all verklempt as you walk towards him? I imagine that’s his face every time you make food for him. *so hungry*

SHEESH your baby class was in the basement of the hospital TOO?!?! So was ours, way back when the wee was still peanut-sized, and it creeped me out also. Did they also have really great, so comfortable folding chairs perfect for an uncomfortably pregnant person to sit on? Yeah.

    October 15, 2014
  37. Absolutely fantastic pictures. And Thunder with the ring!! Wonderful.
