Oh, Eggton! Please feel better!
I hear laughter boosts the immune system. If that’s true, I’m now well armed against the flu. I hope you and Scott had as much fun making this video as I’m having watching it!
Also, science says that snuggling a warm dog is proven to relieve flu symptoms. I wish you a speedy recovery!
Jennifer, thanks! We did have fun making it. We had several outtakes where Seymour tried to eat the soup, and one where Scott threw an egg at the wall. I laughed so hard that I was almost able to breathe out of my nose again. π
Oh, show us the outtakes! Seymour looked like the perfect stunt-dog, just laying there with compassion and dead weight. And a flash-cut of Thunder.
Really loved this one, and I bet it did make you feel better until the sweats started and you got a little faint.
I found your video score with this adorable father/daughter duo.
I’ll pass along a bourbon soup recipe that I bet will help (adapted from a C’ville restuarant):
1 Large Onion
Celery
Garlic
Potoato
Fifth of Bourbon
Put the veggies in the fridge, serve remaining ingredients in rocks glass. If i doesn’t cure you at least you’ll sleep through it.
Solson, I feel a duty to wait until at least 7 pm (it being a Tuesday and all), and then I will try your recipe out. Thanks for looking out for my health.
I feel better just reading that recipe!
ARE YOU WEARING A SNUGGIE IN THIS VIDEO?
I hope you are feeling better. I’m betting the microwaves in that Chunky soup helped. (Science. That’s science.)
I am wearing fooooootie pajamaaaaaaas! I loves them. They have a creepy-looking monkey on the right side of the chest. And the feet are monkeys, too. I think the monkey feet have prevented the flu from attacking my feet because I have no symptoms there.
Does 2.0 know how to make soup? I bet he does. I bet he gives you soup, not soup with microwaves in it.
2.0 knows how to spell soup. That’s about it.
Okay I was totally thinking that was a snuggie too!
It’s FOOTIE PAJAMAS, Jen. FOOTIE PAJAMAS. I prefer them because snuggies are drafty in the back. However, I HATE taking the footie pajamas off whenever I have to go to the loo. So I have yet to find an ideal outfit to fight the flu in. Suggestions welcome.
I thought it was a snuggie too! Health people tell me you would have been much worse off if you hadn’t got the flu shot, but I don’t think that’s how it works.
p.s. you need a union suit, you know, with the flap in the back. I got my brother one last year and he loves it.
Oh my! Almost peed my pants when you said you don’t think your doctor is really a doctor! Hahaha
Feel better soon. Can’t wait to see what kind of soup you make for Scott when he gets the plague. Around out over my k
Kids Christmas break that the plague travels! Who knew????
On a different note, when did Seymour get so big?
Love the fact that thunder was not appearing to show any interest in this movie! She’s such a diva!
Jen, I am so not making it up about the doctor. I don’t know why she doesn’t get a better sign. One that doesn’t look like it should have a price list for pedicures and eyebrow waxes hanging next to it.
Thunder is indeed being a total diva because it’s been raining here for days and days. She hates getting wet, but she’s getting super bored being inside all day. As for Seymour, I can’t believe how big he is, either!! He’s about 9 months and he must weigh 45 pounds now. But he still sits all over me like he did when he was 13 lbs.
HOME BY EDWARD SHARPE AND THE MAGNETIC ZEROS?
My favourite song ever, I died.
(Hope you feel better.)
Oh I’m so glad. I can’t believe that song’s been out since 2009. I heard it at a wedding in Chattanooga a few months ago and I’ve loved it ever since. One of my recent favorite Pandora stations is the one for The Alabama Shakes. The Edward Sharpe song comes on all the time!
It won’t play!! Help me make it play!! =( All I can see is the first sentence!
Really? Hmmm. That’s super annoying. It’s working for me. If you refresh the browser, or use firefox instead of explorer or something, maybe? If it still won’t and you don’t have a different computer to try it on later, I’ll just put it on youtube for ya.
OK, so random, got my new laptop today. Still won’t play. I think Comcast in Washington has some large vast huge conspiracy against you. But it worked on my spiffy new iphone. So whoop!
Aaaannnnnddd today it works. Go figure. I hope you are feeling much better today and not so craptastic.
Either those dogs are a lot more huge than they appear or you are very tiny! (Not that I can comment on that – I’m 5’1″ on a good day, but much sturdier)
I would prefer to get my flu shot in the parking lot, because the parking lot is a bit of a walk from the break room where we get our shots. And I am lazy. The flu we’re getting around here seems to sap my ability to circulate blood through my body. I woke up from a nap the other day and both my toes (which were under my thick comforter) and my face were numb with cold. Fortunately, unlike my daughter, I didn’t have to throw up. (Also, for future reference, you CAN buy Sudafed. It’s just that you have to provide your driver’s license, three character witnesses, an entire geneological history, and certification from the FBI to prove that you’ll be using it for your cold instead of to make meth.)
Hope you beat the flu soon!
I’ve tried in Oregon you have to have a doctors prescription to purchase the good stuff! lol. And I agree, your new doggy is HUGE! π
Hope you feel better soon! π¦
Two interesting observations. One, our husbands have a lot in common. Mainly, cooking with cheesies and beer within arms reach. Two, last week we both went to the gym. This week we’re both sick. Coincidence, I think not.
ok, so you want non-drafty pajamas with a way to easily go to the loo? problem = solved.
you asked for suggestions. so consider yourself suggestion-ized.
i really thought scott was going to pull it out with that homemade soup.
Ha! I love the part where the narrator tells everyone to “just zip it, and get LAZY!”
What a quality product.
That flu bug really sucks! I had it last week and STILL have the cold/cough that goes with it. I hope you feel better soon!! Also, I LOVE the video. More videos!
I hope you’re better now. Are you? I’m over it. Fully recovered. Now I’m back to the place where every day that I don’t get pink eye from one of my dogs is a miracle.
Yes, thank you! I’m glad you’re better too, it’s really a nasty bug. However, it turns out my flu “turned into” an ear infection and bronchitis. Woo! Go big or go home right!?!
I’ve been on meds for a week and the cough is finally better. The ear infection improved overnight. Oh, pink eye!! Had that a few times too. I’m surprised I didn’t get that too. It’s been a rough year for sickness and it’s only January 22!! Here’s to a healthy rest of 2013.
I am sorry to hear you have fallen victim! Can Scott not throw some gamma rays in that brew to perk you up? I see you are using that awesome cutting board we picked up in Nashville. Hope you are up and at it soon.
Donna, isn’t that cutting board the best? I got one of those pastry cutters/scoopy things for Christmas since I hadn’t gotten one that day, and it’s my new favorite thing. So handy! We have to do another cooking class soon–I’ll check the Viking schedule.
Feel better soon!
Thank you, my dear!
Your videos are the entertainingest. And even when you’re sick! Hope you feel better soon!!
You should try some (out of the box) matzo ball soup, or try adding some fresh lime juice & hot sauce to whatever other soup you’re surviving on.
Meanwhile, thanks for the reminder to get a flu shot!
Allison, lime juice and hot sauce sounds incredible in soup. Wouldn’t it be great in a chicken noodle or chicken and rice? Yum. I’ve never tried it but I’m glad you brought it up. As for the flu shot, good luck! Scott didn’t get one and HE’S ANNOYINGLY FINE RIGHT NOW.
Yes yes yes to adding lime juice/hot sauce to both chicken noodle and chicken & rice soups. Also: turkey lentil soup with kale. There’s a recipe for it on my blog, which is really my girlfriend’s recipe– she’s the one who pointed out to me how wonderful the spicy/sour combination can be when you’re sick! (Along those same lines, I’m thinking… Mexican tortilla soup and Kimchi soup would also fit the bill!)
Ughhhhh and I still haven’t gotten a flu shot. It doesn’t help that I have an extra lack of desire to take the bus to-&-from a flu shot spot, but my car doesn’t work when it rains.
They say that brand tastes home made!
Hee hee. So they say indeed! π
Eggton ! That’s a soup recipe I ‘ve never heard of. Is it better?
Get well soon. Love your blogs much !
I am better! Yay! Thanks for checking up on me. I have recovered and am back to the regular antics. I hope the flu passes you by, Rhema!
Hope you are feeling better! Here’s something to put Scott and his culinary skills in a better light…I am down with flu too (lets not even get into the doctor piece of things!), but my guy will burn the kitchen down, boiling water for tea, so in the spirit of being very generous, he would order soup while he is at work and I would open the door, tip the delivery boy, pour the soup into a bowl and have it, all the while my temperature is hovering at 103* and then he will call to say ….did you get the soup. I am sure you are feeling so much better. See you need to be taken care of by me!
Scott said he was going to do this the other day. He said he was just going to order me soup. And I was like, DID YOU SEE THE COMMENT FROM MY FRIEND-WHO-I’VE-NEVER-MET saying that’s what her man does? He hadn’t, which is rare because he usually reads all the comments. I was like, “SHE SAID THAT, LIKE, A WEEK AGO AND YOU’RE *JUST NOW* REALIZING THIS, GAH!!” It was funny. Also, he has yet to order me soup. SIGH.
π Men….they all think alike! Sooner or later itβs always the same conclusion they arrive at….no matter what they are, who they are, what is their profession or how geographically apart they live! Sigh! You can’t live with them and you cannot live without them!!!!
FEEL Better – I have been the Flu Goddess for a week and subsisting on curry and quinoa AND beet and fennel soup. If you were closer, Scott could just come pick some up. LOL Sending Good Health!!!!!!! And Seymour is enormous! LOL
Oh my goodness, your sprouted bean/curry/quinoa recipe looks awesome. I have a lot of leftover beets (already cooked) that I was wondering what to do with. I shall turn them into soup! What a good idea. I hope you are now fully recovered and taking on more quinoa recipes for us. It’s my new favorite thing.
PS yes, I don’t know what happened but Seymour positively SPROUTED and now he’s a big hulking beast with a heart of gold. Go figure.
Mmmm. . .maybe Scott could wear a hair net on his arms next time. Be well! The flu tally this year is remarkable. I think wearing one piece pajamas with feet attached played a role in the demise of my first marriage.
Mad Queen Linda, my mom actually sent me an email about how awesome the comments are on this blog, and she cited this particular one was hilarious, which it is.
Really? Your mom is totally amazing.
Before reading the comments I was going to ask if you were wearing a prison jumpsuit which I thought was appropriate since you’re in flu jail. That’s one of my most favorite songs ever! I love this video, y’all are awesome. I hope you’re feeling better soon if Scott doesn’t kill you with honey egg soup before then.
Good Lord, Seymour is HUGE! I’m glad to see I am not the only commenter surprised by his size. I hope you are feeling better by now and I give Scott credit for at least trying to make soup.
Seymour is approximately the size of a hippopotamus. I have no idea how it happened. He’s not even a year old, and if he doesn’t stop growing soon, we’re going to have to move into a warehouse or something.
I too second the request for showing the outtakes, please! Scott looks very culinary in his frilly apron π
Hope you’ve kicked the flu bug or at least gotten your nails done, lol
Get well soon! Loved watching the video even though you were in pain! Funny even when you’re sick! What I do when I’m sick is take some bread, butter it and then put onions on it. It sounds gross, unless you like onions. And even then it still sounds gross. But it works! nerdwithtaste.wordpress.com
We have chickens so someone sent me the picture of knitted chicken capes. We had goats so that led me to Goat Coats. Now my poor 9 yr old daughter has the flu so I landed here and I am so happy ( for me not her of course) because I have a new blog to love. Thank you!
Btw-I dug out a pair of hand me down footy pajamas ( with frogs on them also…. hmmm ) and told her that you said footy pjs were good to wear when you have the flu, and besides they keep your feet from getting the flu. She looked at me, shook her head and with with a look of pure pity for my naive gullibility said “Mom, that lady’s crazy.”
Back to my poor patient….
Bwahahahaha! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me the story about your daughter and the footie pajamas because it makes my day. And my day was starting out badly because we had a storm last night (that I completely slept through) and a HUGE tree crashed into our back yard, taking down the fence. There’s seriously 100 feet of 3″-wide trunk lying across our yard now. Blerg.
I am so glad you found your way here! I hope the little one recovers soon.
Katherine
Goats LOVE to have tree stumps to jump up and down on…so have your friend come and cut up yr fallen tree and give it to her goats. Just imagine the little goaties jumping off the stumps with their coats flapping in the wind as you hum the theme from Superman
Oh my gosh, what a great idea! I am totally going to do that. She has a bench outside her barn and they love hopping up on it and down, and up, and down. They’re going to love the tree stumps!
