This Was A Royal Pain In The Tannenbaum If You Ask Me

If you’re on the fence about watching this video we made, you should know this:

Scott lost a pair of seersucker pants during the filming of a Russian folk-dance scene that I might have forgotten to choreograph in advance.

Speaking of the holidays. . . I opened a little store on the internets!  I fully expect that my mom will be the only one to order from it, but if you’d like to put together a little box of Thunder-themed notecards, do it!  I ordered some as stocking-stuffers already and I was excited about the quality of the printed images.

thunder cards

So visit the store for more, and let me know if there’s something else you want me to gin up.  (T-shirts, tote bags, calendars, mugs?)

  1. I thought Scott was a physicist or something, how did he get such comic talent? This is the best holiday greeting I’ve ever received…now off to check out Thunder themed tchotchkes…

    December 4, 2012
    • Aw, Sue, thanks! The guy is good at SO MANY THINGS which is kind of infuriating since I am good at, like, 4 things. FOUR, Sue.

      December 4, 2012
  2. Love the cards – thanks for sharing:) Have a Great One!

    December 4, 2012
    • You, too! Thanks as always.

      December 4, 2012
  3. Girl, Scott took pine needles to the FACE for you. That’s love. Best video yet (although i still love the scene from the Halloween one where you are tipsy on skittles and wine.)

A store! YES! Finally when people ask me to get the best Thunder and Seymour themed products, I know where to direct them.

    December 4, 2012
    • HA! Yes, no need to cobble felt shapes together anymore to satisfy the masses asking you to craft Thunder products on the fly. I have finally stepped in to, you know, start the spin-off product empire.

      December 4, 2012
  4. Kate, love the video, you have way more patience than me for pre-production!

    December 4, 2012
    • Well, we’re practically swimming in seersucker down here in the South so costuming is easy to come by, whereas you. . . not so much with the seersucker, I imagine?

      December 4, 2012
  5. My mother scratched her cornea on a pine needle. This doesn’t really relate to your wicked awesome video, but I thought I’d share anyway. ALSO, did you know that I’m a certified folk dance teacher? That I specialize in European folk dances? No lie.

Those cards are awesome. I actually yipped (Russian/Romanian folk dance squeal) when I saw your shop! FYI, I would totally wear an Eggton t-shirt. As long as it featured you in overalls. Or Scott’s ripped pants. Or your faces smooshed together with a tagline that reads “we love movita…”

    December 4, 2012
    • Just to be clear: the t-shirt should feature a picture of Scott’s ripped pants? Or you just want me to send you the pants.

      December 4, 2012
      • Um, come to think of it, either would be fine.

        December 4, 2012
        • Well, I’ll see if the dry cleaner will charge me extra to get sap, beer, mud and tractor grease off the pants, and then we can talk.

By the way, when you show up at a tree farm dressed to the nines, they let you ride their tractors around. True story.

          December 4, 2012
    • you specialize in EUROPEAN FOLK DANCING?!? plane tickets = purchased. You have no idea the joy it would bring me to learn how to european folk dance.

      December 5, 2012
    • AHHHHHHH, that is my biggest fear when I’m out in the woods! Scratching my eyeballs on needles and twigs. But sometimes, it just happens, you know? And then you do an intricate dive roll because of the pain. And then you pop back up, and get on your merry eyeless way.

      December 6, 2012
      • Um, so along these lines, it turns out I’m allergic to the tree. I didn’t realize this in the tree field because Scott was doing all the work. I get a rash whenever I touch it! But it’s very pretty. . .

        December 6, 2012
        • I’m allergic to trees too! I got a rash while making a wreath today. Christmas hates me.

I LOVE THE VIDEO! You are getting really good at them, this is hilarious. And I bought the card of Thunder licking his nose – my sister-in-law will love it. And she loves to cook too, this will introduce her to your site!

    December 4, 2012
    • Oh my goodness, you are the first Thunder patron in the entire world! Wooot! I’m so excited you’re sending a card to your sister-in-law. Guess what? I’m going to have a sister-in-law, too! My brother is getting hitched. I will be sure to send her lots of greeting cards, to let her know how glad I am. 🙂

      December 4, 2012
  7. Looks like you guys had great fun. Roger says hi. We’ll look forward to the tractor video. Merry Christmas. Next year I’ll be ready to help in the fun!

    December 4, 2012
    • Thank you, Pat! We had a BLAST. Honestly, one of the most fun days I’ve had in a long time. I can’t wait to go over the tractor video and the photos I took of them–they were beautiful, and Scott was positively thrilled to ride one around. I managed to get a picture of your adorable teeny, tiny goat, too. It was good to see you and Roger and I hope you have a good holiday season!

      December 4, 2012
  8. Ginger Cobl #

Too funny my friend! Merry Christmas to you and Scott!!!

    December 4, 2012
    • Merry Christmas to you, too, Ginger! We’ll stop by the store before we head home for the holidays so we can wish you a proper Christmas.

      December 5, 2012
  9. The boy has come a long way from the old days of singing into a zucchini…

    December 4, 2012
    • Details requested over a glass of wine during Christmas vacation. Please produce photographic evidence if available.

      December 5, 2012
  10. You guys are awesome. Just sayin’. And that look on his face at the end is priceless!

  11. jenny_o #

This is hilarious! You are a talented team! Thanks for sharing your fun 🙂

    December 4, 2012
    • Jenny, thanks for being there to watch it! It’s way more fun for us when we get to share random stuff like this–if we didn’t have people who would take the time to watch it, I’m not sure we’d, you know, motivate to spend 4 hours in a field on a typical Saturday afternoon. 🙂

      December 5, 2012
  12. cute card idea! You are a funny chicka!

    December 4, 2012
    • Thank you so much! It’s fun designing stuff on zazzle. You should try it sometime with some of your own stuff!

      December 5, 2012
  13. Right, I had no IDEA Scott could take a fall like that. I mean, that is some Buster Keaton level action. I loved this so much.

    December 5, 2012
    • Carol Anne, I didn’t know it either! The parts where he’s trying to rip the Christmas tree out of the ground are my favorites. At one point I said “ok, now really put your back into it,” and he looked at me like “are you NUTS?! I just made myself wipe out 6 times! My ‘back’ is waaaaay ‘into it!'”

      December 5, 2012
  14. Can I get them shipped to London? They are very cute 🙂

    December 5, 2012
  15. Joe G. #

You guys are awesome! This is genius and your next video should include the doggies.

    December 5, 2012
    • Thanks, Joe! We had no idea what we were doing, but it was a riot trying to film it. Since I read your comment, I have been trying to wrap my mind around the idea of a Thunder and Seymour video sped up at twice the speed. I bet it would look pretty funny to see Thunder wiggle that fast.

      December 5, 2012
  16. This video is awesome.

    December 5, 2012
    • Thank you for saying so! We had a BLAST making it.

      December 5, 2012
  17. Kate #

    Lordy, this is amazing.

I vote for a deck of Thunder playing cards. Which reminds me, I have some amazing pictures from Thunder’s vacation in Tribeca that I keep forgetting to send you.

    December 5, 2012
    • Oh do send them when you find them! I think I’ll need to get her to wear some sunglasses for the photo shoot meant for the deck of cards. Thoughts?

You know how you told me that Thunder liked to roll around in the reeds down by the Hudson? I wish you could see how she jumps into a pile of dry leaves right now and tries to bury herself in them. It’s incredible.

      December 5, 2012
  18. Coach #

I have never enjoyed a four-minute video so much. Move over Dujardin and Bejo, someone stole your overalls.

    December 5, 2012
    • Coach! You are very kind.

Scott got me those overalls at the tractor supply store. They are quite comfortable and they have approximately 7 million pockets in which I can lose stuff.

      December 5, 2012
  19. mikevallano #

awesome video! hilarious and very well done. merry holidays.

    December 5, 2012
    • Thanks, Mike! Happy holidays to you, too.

      December 5, 2012
  20. Amy #

omg, this is hysterical, Katherine!! you guys should go into business. Thunder can be your manager and seymour can…well, i’m not sure what his skills are.

    December 5, 2012
    • BWHAHAHA we don’t know what his skills are either. We joke about how he’s not as smart as Thunder which is totally unfair because he got potty trained in, like, 6 days. He just does some stuff sometimes that make us go “huh?!” Like he eats flour. Loves it. Loves to get it in his mouth until it basically forms uncooked dough.

      What a weirdo.

      December 5, 2012
  21. As always, you have the BEST BLOG EVER:) How about some notecard pics with Thunder and his sticks – I love the notecards, the blog, your videos, and everything. Thank you:)

    December 5, 2012
    • You are too kind! Thank you so much. And My mom suggested the exact same thing–a card with Thunder eating sticks on it. I’ll get right to work!

      December 5, 2012
  22. Thunder is such a great model! The cards are adorable, I’m going to check out the shop…

    December 5, 2012
    • Thanks, midnitechef!

      December 12, 2012
      • Yay, the cards arrived today! They are cute and wonderfully made. Perfect for any thing 🙂

        December 12, 2012
  23. Fantastic!!!! And I will be checking out your store!! P.S aren’t moms wonderful!!!

    December 5, 2012
    • I agree–moms are the BEST!

      December 12, 2012
  24. Oh my goodness! That is the greatest video. I am so impressed with your talent and Scott’s.

    December 5, 2012
    • I barely had to do anything for this video. It’s like we got out into the field and BLAMMO, Scott turned into a silent movie star. I was shocked.

      December 12, 2012

    Overalls!

    December 5, 2012
  26. You guys could seriously quit your day jobs. Very funny and totally a classic. You should really just send this round to everybody you know for your homemade gift!
Sweet cards too… happy holidays 🙂

    December 5, 2012
    • Happy holidays, Wendy! And thanks–we had a ridiculous amount of fun.

      December 12, 2012
  27. kittie88wong #

That video rocked! Thanks for making me laugh, considering I have to go to work soon. I think I’ll watch it again when I get to work. That way, my colleagues will look at me funny when I burst out laughing and wonder if I’ve been smoking something funny.

    December 6, 2012
    • Horray! I’m glad you laughed. We laughed a lot too out there in that field! Thanks for the kind words, Kittie.

      December 6, 2012
  28. Amy #

If you include the photo of Thunder cracking herself up (https://eggton.com/2012/02/22/i-join-the-gourd-society-by-accident-and-we-eat-green-poblano-rice/) I will buy that. Please!

    December 6, 2012
    • But of course! Thanks for letting me know. I’ll do that in the next day or so and will email you when it’s up and you can tell me if it looks okay!

      December 6, 2012
      • Amy #

        Bless you, thank you!!

    Also, your video is awesome!

I seriously echo the first comment. A physicist? Are you sure? He is one unusual physicist, I will venture. And you two are fun. Klezmonauts? I will have to check them out. How to describe this video? This foodie and physicist from Alabama do a black and white video to klezmer music? I can’t wait for the one with the dogs in it. You know, the next one.
And I prefer Thunder laughing as in the photo by your posts. Or looking disapproving. Actually, she is pretty cute most of the time.

    December 6, 2012
  31. Kristi #

WOW that was fantastic!! You guys are so very talented!!! More more more!

Scott may have split his pants but I’ve totally peed myself laughing like a lunatic (as usual). Best Xmas video card ever. Happy Holidays & Peace to Chez Eggton 🙂

  33. Carrey #

Loved the video! That made my morning!

    December 9, 2012
    • Aw, thanks, Carrey! Filming the movie sure made my weekend, I’ll tell you that.

      December 12, 2012
  34. Best video EVER!

    December 9, 2012
  35. Laura G. #

THIS. IS. AMAZING. plus, love the extra scene at the end.

    December 9, 2012
    • Heh heh. Also, you can’t tell while watching the movie because we took out the audio but people were skeet shooting or whatever on a shooting range nearby. Every few minutes there’d be a rifle shot and we’d have to try our best not to dive for cover, or else we’d have to start filming the shot all over again. It was nuts!

      December 12, 2012
  36. Elizabeth #

Ok…..I am a little behind on my Eggton post reading……but so happy I saved this for a Monday!!! I am smiling from ear to ear. It is a good thing y’all found each other….not sure how many men would say yes to this one! You are both awesome!

    December 10, 2012
    • Ah, so true. It IS a good thing we found each other. My life would probably be pretty darn boring if we hadn’t. 🙂

So I am not really sure how this works and I hope I am not slapping a chain letter on you, but I am supposed to nominate fellow bloggers for the Blog of the Year Award and I nominated you! Just wanted you to know. 🙂

    December 11, 2012
    • That is very kind of you–thanks for thinking of me, lady!

      December 12, 2012
  38. Ooo! Ooo! Ooo! I’m so excited! Thunder Greetings?! Score!
And omigod you guys are adorable. Really. I can see why your dogs are so damn amazing.

    December 11, 2012
  39. Mary #

Hilarious! That took some serious dedication – definitely best holiday card I’ve seen this year 🙂 Hope you are feeling well!!
